Abstract
Criticizes a leading theory of environmental protection that holds that humans should act as trustees for our natural resources. Outlines Joseph Sax's highly original proposal and shows how it has exerted great influence on environmental thought and action. Shows, however, that the theory has stalled competing approaches to conservation efforts that might have proven even more far-reaching. Sets forth general strategies for law reform and reformers.
