Abstract
A lowly gate-keeper at a Vietnamese shopping gallery barely makes it from month to month. Having lost his lover in the Tet Offensive, Singhat Lee has little initiative. However, one “fateful” night Singhat enjoys the opportunity to be heroic to some extent. But, with little consequence, even Singhat’s intrepid act proves to matter very little in the grand scheme of war and conflict. This short story by author James Redwood illuminates the marginality of human life during the hostile times of war.
