Abstract

This article examines the value of advanced training for experienced mediators. It is based on the experience of the author, a caucus-based mediator, of taking a training that focused on non-caucus techniques. The article describes how the training influenced the author’s thinking about the advantages of reliance on joint meetings versus caucusing, and how it changed his behavior during business mediations he conducted after finishing the program. The article also poses questions which persons considering skills training should ask when selecting a program.
