Abstract

This Foreward introduces the re-issue (in print and ebook formats) of Jerome E. Carlin, Lawyers on Their Own (Quid Pro Books, Classics of Law & Society Series, 2011). The Foreward highlights the main contributions of Carlin's classic empirical study of urban solo-practice lawyers and identifies some of the contemporary scholarship on the legal profession that Carlin's book has influenced.
