Abstract
Mobile payment systems are still in their early stages of development. They exploit the additional functionalities that modern mobile phones are equipped with. Many mobile payment systems suffered from failed trials, and many others will fail. It is therefore important to investigate the factors that may lead to the success of such systems. This paper describes four mobile payment solutions, namely cellular networks, infrared, Bluetooth, and Near Field Communication, and presents NFC-based solutions in more detail and discusses certain authentication and security concerns that are related to this technology. The study also compares the user’s acceptance of these technologies based on certain factors that are adopted from the technology acceptance literature: perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, perceived trust, mobility, and cost.
