Abstract
We describe the organizational structure and history of U.S. bank holding companies, and present stylized facts documenting the increasing complexity, size and diversity of these organizations. We also discuss the different types of regulatory data filed by bank holding companies and their subsidiaries, as a reference for researchers and others.
