Abstract

The Review of the WTO was initiated in 1997. Since than the deadline for the completion of the Review process was extended. This paper attempts to provide an analysis of the shortcomings and ambiguities exposed by the ten years of working of the DSU; secondly, an overview of some of the important proposals made by the WTO Member States in the Special Sessions of the DSU; thirdly, a critical review of the proposals incorporated in the Chairman's Text of the proposal submitted to the Special Session of the DSB for the consideration of the Member States. The Chairman's text reflects only those proposals from the Member States where a possible consensus could be achieved. Lastly, the paper provides some concluding observations regarding the prospects of the review of the DSU.
