Abstract:
[enter Abstract Body]The Caribbean Community is in the fledgling stages of ecommerce activity but is rapidly being overtaken by the necessity to create legal and regulatory systems to deal with this inevitability. There are few countries within this region which have implemented any laws which attempt to deal holistically with the prospects and problems of ecommerce. The proposals of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy do not focus on the creation of a single regulatory body with corresponding laws or regulations which will apply to all signatories to the CSME. This paper takes a look at the experience of the European Union and the English legal system in dealing with issues of online trade and proposes that there are distinct advantages to be had by the Caribbean Community in adopting parts of the model used by the EU

This essay takes a look at how the EU protectionism scheme works
