Jurisprudence and the Problem of Church Doctrine
Nathan B. Oman William & Mary Law School Element: Journal of the Society for Mormon Philosophy and Theology, Vol. 2, No. 2, Fall 2006 Abstract: Within Mormonism, the concept of church doctrine is frequently invoked in theological discussions. What is meant by this term, however, is not entirely clear. This essay argues that the question what is church doctrine? can be usefully analogized to the question what is the law? It then uses the contemporary philosophy of law to analyze the concept of church doctrine within Mormonism
