SampaioTechnical University of Lisbon - SOCIUS - Organisations and Socio-Economic Research Centre - Economics and Mangement School 2005 Abstract: The team had as a central objective the identification, study and definition of strategic direction lines for the integration of the sustainable development principles in business practices. The investigation was developed around the following issues: a) historical background of the issues of sustainable development in the European context; b) explanation of the strategy and policies of sustainability and corporate responsibility in the European Union and Portugal; c) characterization of the dimensions and indicators that integrate the practices of corporate sustainability; d) application of the model of sustainable development to organizations; e) building a frame of reference of good practices developed at National level; f) presentation of case studies conducted in a action / research framework g) definition of possible scenarios regarding the sustainability and corporate responsibility in Portugal. These points referred to the research structure outlined that, without neglecting the uniqueness of each of the studied cases, focused at the central importance of corporate responsibility and on the explicitness of cases and methodologies to could enable different stakeholders to develop their own strategy, according to sustainability logic.
