Hail to the Chiefs: A Tribute to America's Women Chief Justices

Abstract:     
This article salutes the first thirteen women to become chief justice of a state supreme court in the 30 years since Lorna E. Lockwood of Arizona became the nation's first female chief justice in 1965. Includes photographs of Chief Justice Lockwood, Chief Judge Judith Rogers of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and Chief Justice Ellen Ash Peters of Connecticut.
