Andrea Larson University of Virginia (UVA) - Darden Graduate School of Business Administration Patricia H. Werhane University of Virginia (UVA) - Darden Graduate School of Business Administration Joel Reichart Independent Darden Case No. UVA-E-0174 Abstract: This set of cases (see also the A [UVA-E-0172] and B [UVA-E-0173] cases) describes the dilemma of a small Belgian detergent company that, faced with the inability to compete, developed an environmentally friendly detergent and household cleaners. The company then built an environmentally sustainable factory. The cases raise the following questions: Can such companies compete in green markets? Is an environmentally self-contained factory viable or feasible?
