Dickens and Product Placement: Did He Refuse an Offer from 'Professor' Holloway?Leslie KatzIndependent December 18, 2012 Abstract: In 1884, when both Dickens and "Professor" Holloway, of Holloway's Pills and Ointment, were dead, Dickens's friend, Edmund Yates, claimed that Dickens had once told him of a product placement proposal received from Holloway. The paper discusses Yates's claim and, by reference to material written both by Yates and Dickens, both for publication and not for publication, rejects it.
