A Política Externa Portuguesa Face À ChinaArnaldo GonçalvesCatholic University-Lisbon; International Political Science Association June 22, 2009 Abstract: Portuguese foreign policy has been captive of Portugal's aim of a full and sustainable integration in the European Union. The only alternative area for Portugal's projection of political influence is Africa, namely the 5 countries that were former Portuguese colonies. The author remarks that this abandon of 440 years of historical relations between Portugal and China is a political mistake, a lack of vision from Portugal's current Socialist government. In 10 years time probably nothing will survive this gradual desinvestment.
