Arizona Supreme Court: Its 2000 - 2001 Decisions

Abstract:     
This article is the fourth consecutive annual review of the published opinions of the Arizona Supreme Court. The period under study in this review covers decisions rendered from August 1, 2000 to July 31, 2001. In this period under review, the Arizona Supreme Court continued to develop the jurisprudence of the state in constitutional, statutory, and common law areas of law. For example and most noteworthy, the supreme court issued seven opinions related to state elections in 2000. While these election decisions were certainly not of the Bush v. Gore pedigree, they were of significant public importance to Arizona election law. A summary statistical analysis of the supreme court decisions of the past year is provided, with comparative observations over the four year period of these annual reviews, followed by student authored assessments of specific decisions. While the court decisions are the focus of this annual review, a sketch of the history of the justices on the Arizona Supreme Court is also offered.
