Editorial: 'Towards a Sustainable European Company Law'Beate SjåfjellUniversity of Oslo - Faculty of Law - Department of Private Law July 16, 2009 Amicus Curiae, Society of Advanced Legal Studies, Issue 78, p. 1, London, Summer 2009 Abstract: Do companies have a role beyond that of seeking profit for shareholders? Does company law have a role in furthering sustainable development? It may seem tempting, perhaps especially from a British company law perspective, to dismiss these questions offhand. My analysis of the objectives of EU company and securities law indicates that this would be too hasty. This editorial outlines the results and the consequences of my analysis and introduces the new research project ‘Sustainable Companies’.
