Exceptionalism and the Comparative Analysis of Political Parties

Abstract
The paper will look at the lineage of the exceptionalist argument in the study of political parties. It will examine, in particular, the enduring relevance of the work of Leon Epstein and the relationship between the study of the American party system and comparative party theory more broadly writ.
