BrennanMelbourne Law School June 2, 2010 Communications Law Bulletin, Part One, Vol. 28, No. 4, 2010; Communications Law Bulletin, Part Two, Vol. 29, No. 1, 2010 U of Melbourne Legal Studies Research Paper No. 475 Abstract: This is an exploration of the contours of copyright authorisation liability as that liability relates to a case involving the Australian internet service provider iiNet and thirty-four film and television companies. A primer on copyright authorisation liability in Australia is provided, together with an economic policy explanation for why such liability exists. The findings in Roadshow Films v iiNet will then be described, together with a critique of certain aspects of the trial judgment.
