CNN and the News: Stewarding the Public Interest

Abstract:     
News is defined and explicated with respect to the principles of stewardship, in turn defined and explicated with reference to the journalistic profession and CNN in particular. The stress is less upon the ‘need to know’ or even the ‘right to know’ but rather upon what is worthy as valid journalistic content. The argument is advanced that, as a profession, journalists occupy an office that requires stewardship, a canopy term encompassing all aspects of ethics touching upon the obligations of and to offices.
