Abstract:
The paper is an attempt to show the relationship between health and economic development. Health is a major constraint in the development of developing countries but health itself is constrained by under-development in other sectors of the economy. Though health is a necessity and investment in this sector should never be compromised, the paper shows that how investment in other sectors of the economy and some other aspects of health which are generally not taken into consideration, is crucial for a betterment of the health status of the developing nations. I have given a theoretical framework and presented a case study of National Health Mission performance in Maharashtra to show the mentioned relationship. The paper also shows the two way relationship between income and health status of an economy.
