Please Vote on Two Citation FormatsJoseph KimbleThomas M. Cooley Law School May 2010 Michigan Bar Journal, Vol. 89, p. 44, May 2010 Abstract: Some authorities on legal writing believe that citations - but only citations, not incidental talk - should go in footnotes. I decided to survey Michigan lawyers on this question. In this article, I presented side-by-side versions of three passages and asked readers to vote on which group reads better. The passages are identical except for placement of the footnotes. Which group would you vote for? I reported the results in a later article, also available on SSRN.
