Modeling Household Health Care Expenditure in Rural ChinaYanyan GaoSoutheast University - School of Economics and Management Gang ChenMonash University - Centre for Health Economics Shengwei TuNational Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) - Institute of Industrial and Technological Economics June 2, 2011 Abstract: This paper investigates the determinants of household health care expenditures in rural China. The empirical results given by rural household data show that large families and old members tend to increase household health care expenditures, while households with the head experiencing village cadre will dramatically reduce the health care expenditures. Hospitalization and medical care insurance can release households’ demand for health care and result in remarkable higher health care expenditures.
