A Management Perspective of Ethics and Social Responsibility: From Past to FutureSandra Perksaffiliation not provided to SSRN June 19, 2011 Society of Interdisciplinary Business Research (SIBR) 2011 Conference on Interdisciplinary Business Research Abstract: This paper investigates how management or owners today view ethics and social responsibility. A quantitative research approach was followed. A non-probability convenient sample of 230 managers was drawn. A survey was conducted using selfadministered questionnaires in the Nelson Mandela Metropole, South Africa. Managers favour the justice approach to ethical decision making and use economic criteria for evaluating social responsibility. Management should pay attention to economic, social and environmental performance (triple bottom line) without being forced to do so by law. Today businesses have an ethical responsibility which requires that managers must ensure there are policies and guidelines to guide employee behaviour.
