Pope John Paul II's Evangelium Vitae and the 'Horizon of the Good'Lucia Ann SilecchiaCatholic University of America (CUA) - Columbus School of Law 2011 Journal of Christian Legal Thought, Vol. 1, No. 1, Spring 2011 CUA Columbus School of Law Legal Studies Research Paper No. 2011-9 Abstract: This essay, for the inaugural issue of the Journal of Christian Legal Thought, invites readers to consider the lessons of Pope John Paul II’s “Evangelium Vitae” for modern lawyers. The essay argues that Pope John Paul’s well known encyclical is both a strong, eloquent defense of vulnerable human life, as well as a call to all those involved in the law to consider the demands of law, conscience, and morality in the public and private spheres.
