The Holy Qur’an has been revealed in pure Arabic language while people in the world speak many languages. Hence to learn other languages is necessary to convey this Last Divine Message to them. Similarly, the people of other languages should learn Arabic to understand this Message. The Holy Qur’an has been translated in almost all the major international languages and the Qur’anic message has reached every hook and coroner of the world. Translation is one thing and explanation is another. This science is called ‘Ilm al-“Tafsir/تفسیر”. It has its great value and advantage as once a thing is well understood to act upon it and in accordance with it becomes easy.
Allah Almighty says:
There is not a moving (living) creature on earth, nor a bird that flies with its two wings, but are communities like you. We have neglected nothing in the Book, Then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered. [6:38]
The Last Prophet and Messenger of Allah (صَلَّی اللہُ عَلہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم) said:
اِنَّ لِلہِ اَلِنَ مِنَّا۔ قَالُا: یَا رَسُلَ اللہ ِ : مَ ھُ؟ قَالَ: ھُ اَلُ ا قُآنِ
اَلُ اللہِ وَ خَاصَّتُہُ
Some people from among us are such who are people of God. The companions asked: O the Messenger of Allah (صَلَّی اللہُ عَلہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم)! Who are they? He (صَلَّی اللہُ عَلہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم) said: They are people of the Holy Qur’an. They are people of God and (they are) His special servants.
The Last Prophet and Messenger of Allah (صَلَّی اللہُ عَلہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم) also said:
اَقُآنُ حُجَّۃٌ لَکَ اَ عَلَکِ The Holy Qur’an will be an authoritative proof for or against you.
Further, Allah Almighty left for the Holy Prophet (صَلَّی اللہُ عَلہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم) to discharge the function of giving the details of the brief, elaboration of the difficult, and determination of one where there could be more than one possibilities. The Holy Qur’an says:
With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). and we have also sent down unto You (O Muhammad ) the Reminder and the advice (the Qur’ân), that You may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought. [16:44]
This is to make distinct the position of the Messenger of Allah (صَلَّی اللہُ عَلہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم) and the vestiture of authority in him and his saying, practice and tacit approval being all authoritative and must be obeyed and followed with full sincerity.
Among the believers [who believe in لا الہ الا اللہ محمد رسول اللہ] and they are pious and have been blessed with knowledge they are also to get much reward for their efforts in the matter of Ijtihad they conduct where there is occasion for doing it competently and fearing God Almighty alone in the light of the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah of the Last Prophet and Messenger of Allah (صَلَّی اللہُ عَلہِ وَ آ لِہٖ وَسَلَّم) and the Ijma‘Sahabah (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہم اجمعین).
The Holy Qur’an says:
O You who believe! When you are told to make room in the assemblies, (spread out and) make room. Allâh will give you (ample) room (from his Mercy). And when you are told to rise up [for prayers, Jihâd (holy fighting in Allâh's Cause), or for any other good deed], rise up. Allâh will exalt In degree those of You who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allâh is Well-Acquainted with what you do. [58:11]
