James P. Nehf, SECURITY INTERESTS IN MANUDACTURED HOMES: SECURED TRANSACTIONS UNDER THE UNIFORM COMMERCIAL CODE, Ch. 18a, J. B. McDonnell, ed., 2009
The law on perfection and maintaining perfection of security interests in manufactured (mobile) homes is complex. Depending on the state, it may require a personal property filing in the UCC records, the recording of a mortgage in the county real estate records, a vehicle registration, or a combination of all. While efforts to simplify this area of the law are underway, at present it is a confusing state of affairs that creates inefficiencies in the manufactured home industry. This paper discusses the law in this evolving area of commercial activity.
