Abstract:
This paper stresses that a promise, an agreement, an undertaking, or a covenant, is like a debt and must be fulfilled whether it is oral or written. Both the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ وسلم) enjoin the fulfillment of the covenants. The Messenger of Allah (صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ وسلم), as narrated by Hadrat Anas (رضی اللہ عنہ), had in every speech used to say: One who does not guard a covenant does not guard one's religion.
