The Relationship between Economic Growth and Human Well-Being in Latin America: A Dynamic Time Series AnalysisEdgardo Bucciarelli“Gabriele d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara Fabrizio Muratore“Gabriele d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara - School of Advanced Studies Michele Alessi“Gabriele d’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara - School of Advanced Studies September 28, 2011 Abstract: This paper is aimed to investigate into the relationship between economic growth and the dimension of human well-being concerning the fulfillment of the basic needs, and, more specifically, to analyze the interdependence between gross domestic product (GDP) and physical quality life index (PQLI) by using a dynamic time series analysis for a temporal range of eighteen years, from 1992 to 2009, regarding a sample of 4 Latin American countries (Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, and Cuba) representing the Latin American population. Results from the VAR analysis suggest that there is a long-period interdependence between GDP and PQLI for different temporal lags which is not possible to observe through static analyses.
