Canons, Curriculums, NumbersRebecca GouldYale-NUS College; University of Iowa October 17, 2011 Inside Higher Ed, October 17, 2011 Abstract: Linking the increasing emphasis in public higher education on student enrollments to the decline of robust core curriculums, particularly in US public universities, I argue for a more rigorous and global core than is at present available at the majority of US universities. Student enrollments are no guide to a course's quality or to student learning and tend to be overemphasized in administrative decisions.
