Reverse Supply Chain Process as Environmental Sustainability in the Poultry Industry of BangladeshMohammad ShamsuddohaUniversity of Chittagong August 10, 2011 CBC Doctoral Students' Colloquium, Curtin University, Perth, Australia, September 15-16, 2011 Abstract: Environmental sustainability is one of the well-known concepts for the corporate industry to manage internal and external resources for present and future generation. This valued concept make beneficiary to its follower in terms of environment friendly reputation and gaining extra profit. Attention in supply chain management has increasingly amplified since the 1980s when firms realize its benefits of mutual relationships within and beyond their own organization. Reverse supply chain (RSC) is one of the wings of supply chain management which deals with product return, waste reduction, recycle and reuse etc related to environment. This is why, researcher have preferred this potential area based on particular case industry to observe how reverse supply chain can be used to protect and improve environmental hazards. The objectives of this paper are twofold. First, it offers a literature review on sustainability along with environment and supply chain in conjunction with reverse supply chain issue. Second, it develops a conceptual sustainable environment friendly model based on reverse supply chain theory. Later, model has been fitted in simulation environment through Simul8 package. In this paper, poultry industry of Bangladesh used as case. The model has been developed by taking in-depth interview from experienced poultry executives. The paper ultimately focused on sustainability (only dealt with environmental domain) along with reverse supply chain process in the hub of poultry industry of Bangladesh. Future research in this area is also highlighted in this study.
