Abstract:     
It is established from the several economic theories that savings and investment are the two determinants of the overall economic welfare of the people. One of the avenues of investment is the equity shares. It is capable of providing the return highest of all the avenues of investment. But investment in equity shares is not risk free. There is a need for proper investment education in case of equity investment. Off late there are several instruments where equity share is present. It may be pension plans, mutual funds, insurance etc. Therefore, the paper describes about the need for investment education in case of investment in pension funds for planning the retirement, investment in insurance, mutual funds and direct investment in equity shares. The paper also throws light about the importance of equity investment education for employees’ stock option plan.
