Industrial Heritage and Cultural Economics: The Re-Use of Historic Railways in Western AndalusiaManuel MurielUniversity of Seville; University of Sussex January 31, 2006 Cuadernos de Economía de la Cultura, Vol. 4, No. 5, p. 141, 2006 Abstract: From the point of view of economic history and microeconomic theory, we carried out an enquiry on the state of the railway heritage in the province of Huelva and surveyed the chances of their preservation and/or reuse with cultural purposes, i.e. as tourist attractions. This heritage is the remains of the narrow-gauge railways owned by the concerns mining the Iberian Pyrite Belt since the last quarter of the 19th century; most of them foreign-owned companies.
