Law of Information to the Police and Their Powers to Investigate

Abstract:     
This paper is on the procedure as to when, by whom to whom the first information is to be reported regarding commission of any offence cognizable by Police. The relevant section is section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. Any person may go to the Police Station and inform to the police-officer in charge of it about the incident of a crime and the machinery of law comes into action. In other words this FIR is the foundation of starting of an investigation in the crime reported.
