Hackney, Jr.Northeastern University - School of Law 2003 University of Miami Law Review, Vol. 57, No. 3, pp. 629-648, April 2003 Northeastern University School of Law Research Paper Abstract: This article was written as part of a symposium devoted to Pierre Schlag’s book The Enchantment of Reason published in 1998. The article examines the possibilities of doing legal theory, a quintessential modernist project, in our postmodern time. While the author agrees with Schlag’s criticism that legal theory is overly enchanted with reason, he parts ways with the relativist undertones of Schlag’s argument. The article concludes with some discussion of ways in which legal theorists may be informed by developments in science and philosophy in a search for “t”ruth in our postmodern times.
