Case Report: Telecoms - The Longest Sentence Under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

Abstract:     
Individuals involved in bribing officials in Haiti, in order to obtain reduced international interconnection rates from Haiti Teleco, were sentenced to jail terms in the US District Court for violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Joel Esquenazi and Carlos Rodriguez received sentences of fifteen and seven years in prison respectively, plus payment of restitution, after which Rodriguez was to be deported.
