Abstract:
The recent enactment of the 'Ley de Control y Regulación del Poder del Mercado' (Law on Control and Regulation of Market Power) has drawn divergent reactions from commentators within and without Ecuador. While a domestic antitrust regime has long been anticipated in Ecuador, President Rafael Correa’s conflicts with the private media and the judiciary call into question the Law’s intended effect and fair enforcement.
