Abstract:     
This paper offers a contribution to the understanding of the micro-determinants of the export activity in Brazil during the 1990s, analyzing the main attributes of firms that engage in exporting manufactured goods in general, and participate in different regional markets in particular. It draws four main policy implications which go in the direction of allowing markets to optimize export composition, expanding the export volume of existing exporters, promoting entry of new exporters and diversifying markets.
