Abstract

This Report Brief features an analysis of Black America’s employment growth by industry over the period 2000-2012, which is not systematically correlated with the fastest growing industries on a real value added basis. In other words, Black Americans are essentially locked out of many of the high growth industries that reflect the highest incomes. Under these conditions, there can be little progress in closing the Black-White income and wealth gaps that are being discussed so vigorously today.
