Abstract

The use of physical restraint remains controversial. Caring for the patients with dementia sometimes creates very hard questions in which there are no easy or apparent answer to be selected. So, the nurses faced ethical dilemmas over using physical restraint for patients with dementia. They struggle with conflict between right of autonomy and feeling of obligation to protect others and patients. Physical restrain is one of the current debatable issues and there are many unanswered questions concerning it. Also, there is a global debate concerning the role of physical restrain in the violation of patients’ autonomy right in general and decision making in specific among dementia patients.
