Abstract

The innovation can drive increases in productivity and can create profits. The benefits also accrue to the consumer; better processes, better products, and better services, all these being key ingredients that can drive profit growth while enhancing consumer benefits. According to Ndedi (2004), the measurement of corporate innovation enables a company management to objectively assess the culture and readiness of the organization to participate in corporate entrepreneurial innovative activities. The present research conducted envisioned to measure the level of innovation in failed companies in Cameroon.

The current paper is an attempt to bring forward the importance of innovation in small and medium enterprises in Cameroon. In order to achieve the above a non random quota purposive sample of 200 failed companies was used in an empirical research. The Corporate Entrepreneurship Assessment Instrument (CEAI) developed by (Hornsby, Kuratko and Zahra, 2002) is used to assess the internal entrepreneurial posture of the companies. The instrument consisting of 48 items in a questionnaire focuses on the factor Work discretion related to innovation.

The research found almost all the companies used in the research weight low on innovative activities. Recommendations are made regarding enhancing innovative activities within organization willing to survive. To this, trainings are encouraged on corporate innovation.
