Abstract

The main aim of the study is to present the results of estimated losses for the rightholders and other stakeholders from a single torrent site. A single torrent site is chosen and a simple sample of torrents is made. The market price for each torrent is found using information from online shops. The estimation of the losses is calculated using statistical methods. The result is valid for some assumptions. The study covers the period from 04.01.2005 to 20.02.2015.

Loses for the right holders are between 4 896 588 and 6 635 221 Bulgarian levs, which is equal to 2 503 586 and 3 392 535 euros for the observed period. It is important to note that these results are based on the assumption that every torrent is downloaded only once.
