Italian Abstract: L'inizio del 49 avanti Cristo vide la prima fase della guerra civile tra Giulio Cesare e Pompeo Magno. I due generali si stavano cimentando in un logorante conflitto armato a "distanza", durante il quale si venivano progressivamente definendo gli schieramenti in campo. Sia Cesare che Pompeo sono interessati ad ottenere l'appoggio di Marsiglia, una delle più importanti città del bacino del Mediterraneo occidentale. Nel conflitto, Arles entra dalla parte di Cesare.

English Abstract: The beginning of 49 BC saw the first part of the civil war between Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great. The two generals were engaged in a stressful indirect conflict, during which the parts were gradually defining their strength. Both Caesar and Pompey are interested in obtaining the support of Marseille, one of the most important cities of the western Mediterranean basin. In the conflict, Arles entered the side of Caesar.
