Web Strategy and Intelligent Software Agents in Decision Process for Networks Knowledge BasedLuciano PilottiUniversity of Milan - Department of Economics, Business and Statistics Andrea GanzaroliUniversity of Milan - Dipartimento di Economia Politica e Aziendale (DEPA) June 2003 UNIMI Economics Working Paper No. 09.2003 Abstract: Intelligent Agents represents a new class of software with significant potential for a wide range of applications which. They have been successfully used for personal assistants, intelligent user interfaces and managing electronic mail. Recently agents have been applied to e-commerce, promising a revolution in the way we conduct business and showing a successful way of creating and manipulating knowledge an information strategies. They are many definitions of what the term "agent" denotes, based on different approaches and expectations. The main literature describes an intelligent agent as a software entity which functions continuously and autonomously in a specific environment, often inhabited by others agents and processes (Multi-Agent-System).Consistent with the requirement of a particular problem, each agent might passes to a greater or lesser degree of reactivity, autonomy, pro-activity, personality and so on. An agent classified according to intelligence, it's different by the traditional one for having cognitive and learning abilities (BDI Model). One of the oldest examples of software agents are so called "monitors": continuously running programs which monitor a set of sensors and data streams that take action when a pre-specified condition apply (ex. recommending products or news ) over simple effects of minimizing costs of communications (less transaction costs) oriented to exploring new bases of knowledge. Looking even further in the future, the new generation of Intelligent Software Agents will be able to forward decisions and emergent scenarios, share multi-level information, decentralize decisions making process and create new knowledge coupling with robotization both as our searching activity, cleaning and storing of information or semiotic activity towards new meaning and sense crossing different disciplines and application areas in a great reshuffling bases and contents of knowledge all over the world of communication.
