A Discriminant Analysis of Commercial Burglary Versus Other Crimes in Savannah, Georgia
Lorrie L. Hoffman Armstrong Atlantic State University Alfreda Rogers Armstrong Atlantic State University May 2005 Abstract: We intended to classify which areas and days businesses are vulnerable to burglary versus other crimes (robbery, larceny, murder, etc.). By using discriminant analysis, we expected to pinpoint areas that have a high concentration of commercial burglaries, as well as which day it probably will occur. Business owners would be able to use this form of analysis, along with the information, to help determine where to start a business while minimizing the costs for business insurance, security, surveillance, and other needed necessities for a secure working environment. We found no identifiable pattern in our data for recent crimes in Savannah, Georgia.
