Drafting Legislation for Sustainable Soils: A Guide

Abstract:     
This Guide is intended to primarily serve as a resource for States to assist their endeavours to reform legislation and institutions to protect and manage soils. A sound legal and institutional framework for managing soils is not only critical for food production, but also for biological diversity conservation and poverty alleviation. This Guide addresses all these aspects. It proposes legal and institutional elements that specifically address the needs of disadvantaged people, particularly women. This Guide also highlights the need for national soil policy and sets out the elements of a soil management plan.
