Abstract
Information technology often requires new legal standards. This concerns, inter alia, intellectual property law, where new intellectual property rights have been granted to particular new products. The concept of these rights of its own nature ("sui generis rights") is however controversial. This paper discusses this controversy with respect to semiconductor topography makers' rights and database makers' rights.
