Two Churchills and the Hudson's Bay Company

Abstract

Both John Churchill, who became the first Duke of Marlborough, and his descendant Winston S. Churchill, Britain's wartime prime minister, held offices in the Hudson's Bay Company, which played an important role in developing the Canadian interior. John Churchill was the company's third governor early in his career, after the accession of King James II, while Winston Churchill was named its Grand Seigneur after his second prime ministry.
