Abstract
The transformer is one of the most useful pieces of equipment in a power system. The objective of the optimum design is to build the equipment as economically as possible. The design which fulfils certain limitations is subordinated to the question of economic manufacture. This paper presents a multi-objective optimal design of a transformer using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique, with minimizing the cost and maximizing the efficiency as the two objectives. The design optimization of the transformer is presented as a nonlinear multi-criterion optimization technique. Five independent variables are taken to meet the requirement of transformer design. The PSO is used as a tool to solve the problem. The results prove the effectiveness of the multi-objective approach and also provide a good compromise solution.
