Heuristics for Flexible Employee Scheduling

Posted: 16 Sep 1999

Abstract

Approaches to manpower scheduling are dealt with in different problem areas where similarities between the approaches have been neglected. To overcome this deficit a general model to manpower scheduling has been formulated which is based on new modeling concepts extending the Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem. Into this model problems from different areas are embeddable with suitable parameter instantiations. For this new model a priority rule-based heuristic specifically tailored to the problem structure is described. Its suitability is demonstrated by an extensive computational experiment.
