Impact of Economic Slowdown on Carpet Business in India with Special Reference to Bhadohi, UP

Abstract

The article tries to review, various research findings on the contributions made by handicraft sector in economic. Starting of this paper discusses the role of handicraft business in economic development, how handicraft sector can foster economic growth. It stresses the level of economic slowdown affects the life of persons who were basically dependent on carpet business at Bhadohi. Lastly it deals with the reforms taken during past few years in handicraft sector in India. It also lists some important estimates of survey done by different organizations on handicraft with their findings. Official sources suggest that there has already been a sharp fall in employment in the export-oriented sectors like handicraft sector in India.
